Instrumental Music Program

News from the Performing Arts Department

September 13, 2016

Dear Parents:

The Winston School Instrumental Music Program will continue this year, beginning the week of October 10th.  Once I receive the responses from all those interested, I will be creating a schedule for school-time classes.

We are happy to have our four adjunct instructors return to teach:  Mr. Adam Garnys, woodwinds; Mr. Fred Shtraks, violin; Mr. Mike Montrey, guitar, ukulele, and drums; and Ms. Kathleen Ditmer, brass.

On Tuesday, September 13, they each gave a short demonstration to the students in our Morning Meeting.  The program is available to students in grades 4 through 8, and many are expressing an interest.  In some cases, I might advise the students on what instrument to choose.

How to order an instrument and supplies:

  • Go to City Music web site and place your order:  www.citymusiccenter.com, which will also indicate a partnership with NEMC. (Do not be confused by this, as it is still City Music Instrument Rental Company.)  Be sure to type The Winston School on the form, so that the instrument will be delivered directly here to school.
  • Another option is to go to your local music shop, such as Elefante Music in New Providence.
  • For Ukulele rental, contact Andy's Family Music Center in Livingston.  You can call:  973-716-0400 or e-mail:  andysmusiccenter@gmail.com.
  • In addition, all students must order a book – Essential Elements 2000.  We ask that you kindly place your order no later than September 30th.  Those students who returned their instruments for the summer will still need to place their rental order!

As with previous years, we will be asking that the parents pay for lessons, payable to The Winston School.  The lessons for the year will be $660.00 and can be paid in two installments - October and February.  Lessons will be every week, except on holiday weeks and take place through the end of May. The first payment of $330 should be paid on or before Monday, October 3, 2016.  A second payment of $330.00 will be due by Friday, February 3, 2017.  Please complete and return the enclosed form.  Checks should be made payable to The Winston School.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at the school, e-mail me at tcerritto@winstonschool.org, or drop a note in my mailbox.  Thank you for your interest in this growing program!

Sincerely,

Terri Cerritto
Performing Arts Director
