Safety Initiatives at Winston

The Winston School Teachers and Staff participated in a special training workshop led by Lieutenant Rick Proctor of the Summit Police Department and VIAT Security Consulting. The workshop focused on lock-down and active shooter protocols and procedures. The subjects are difficult to contend with but they are necessary components of our staff security training.   Lieutenant Proctor toured the Education Buildings-including the nursery school wing-and the Annex building as well as the main Church building itself. He provided a security and safety audit of all our facilities, grounds and surrounding building areas. The security evaluation by Lieutenant Proctor has set the stage for future enhancements and additions to our security protocols and procedures, as well as the security equipment (such as cameras and entry door devices) that we will be installing over time.
Alongside our Director of Health, Safety and Drills, Mr. Pete Dercole, I have also met with our students over the past weeks in all the divisions and we have spoken to them about security and safety at Winston. I have reinforced with all our students the importance of taking drills seriously and knowing what to do and why. Students have been extremely receptive and open with us and have posed important questions that have paralleled the questions that our security consultant, Rick Proctor, posed to me. Our students are aware and they value our school and being safe and secure while at school.
