Winston Welcomes New Director of Curriculum and Instruction

Dr. Daniele Kass has been an educator for over 17 years. Dr. Kass holds an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from Walden University’s Richard W. Riley College of Education. She holds a Master’s degree from New York University in Special Education. Dr. Kass graduated from the University at Albany in New York with majors in Psychology, Education, and English.

Dr. Adam Price to Present at Winston
Dr. Price, an expert on learning disabilities and Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder, will speak on Raising an Engaged, Motivated Student on Tuesday, January 27th. The Winston School is proud to announce its Summer Academic Camp! JULY 13, 2015 –AUGUST 6, 2015. MONDAY thru THURSDAY, 9:00 AM – NOON. Students may bring lunch and stay on campus until 12:30. Holiday Songs From Around the World
The Winston students, under the direction of Mrs. Cerritto performed a selection of holiday songs from around the world at the Morris Museum. The holiday show was the best yet!

Project Read
Winston teachers were busy in the classroom this week as they continued their professional development for Project Read. Director of Curriculum Daniele Kass is working with staff to fully implement the program, a systematic approach to teaching decoding, encoding, and reading comprehension strategies, using multisensory activities and direct instruction.

Seventh Graders Support Orphanage in Uganda
The students are currently collecting school/art supplies and light weighing sports equipment for the M-Lisada organization in Uganda. One of our eighth graders (Hannah Jones) along with her mother, spent some time there last summer volunteering. Please consider helping out. For more information contact Mrs. Jones.

8th Graders Receive Red Cross Training
The Winston 8th graders successfully completed Heart Saver, CPR & First Aid and AED training under the direction of Peter Dercole. Afraid that you wouldn’t be able to use an AED (Automatic External Defibrillator) if the need were to arise, ask the 8th graders how easy it is to follow the steps and save a life.
