The Winston School seeks to support the social and emotional well-being of all learners.

Our Winston Wellness Program sets high standards for all its students and expects them to demonstrate a high level of respect, responsibility, and cooperation. Students learn values and experience lessons in morality, cultivating an environment that will guide their way to becoming productive citizens of our community.

Our Wellness Program is under the direction of a staff licensed therapist whose role is to advocate, mediate, coordinate, and collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and outside providers to help students be successful. The Wellness Program works to promote the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.

WELLNESS CLASSES:

Weekly Wellness classes are built into every student’s schedule for the entire school year. The curriculum is developmentally based and weaves in the Winston Roots. Each grade focuses on a specific Winston Root in all academic classes and specials. Some topics covered in Wellness classes include: learning differences-with a focus on improving self-esteem, building confidence and developing self-advocacy skills, growth mindset, communication skills, anxiety and stress management, problem-solving and conflict resolution, and mindfulness.

INDIVIDUAL and GROUP COUNSELING and CRISIS MANAGEMENT:

Limited, short-term individual and group counseling support is available to all students. Any student can request to meet a counselor or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent. Crisis intervention and risk assessments are performed as needed.

CONSULTATIONS:

We are available to meet with parents and collaborate with mental health providers that your child may have in the community. We have learned that collaboration with your child’s outside professionals is pivotal.

Speech, Language and Occupational Therapy

Speech and Language Therapy and Occupational Therapy are additional support services available to students at Winston. Our therapists work closely and collaboratively with classroom teachers to integrate skills addressed in therapy sessions into the classroom,  reinforcing understanding and skill acquisition.
