About Us

The Winston School of Short Hills is an independent school serving students with language-based learning differences in grades 1-8.  Winston educates students who, though intellectually capable, have struggled in school and have experienced academic difficulties. The goal of The Winston School is to enable our students to meet with confidence, the academic and social challenges of life. The Winston School fosters the potential and optimism in each child by cultivating intellectual, social and emotional growth in a positive and stimulating environment.

The Winston School is fully accredited through the New Jersey Association of Independent School (NJAIS) and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.  We are also members of the following academic/scholastic organizations:
  • National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS)
  • International Dyslexic Association (IDA)
  • New Jersey International Dyslexic Association (NJIDA)
  • International Literacy Association (ILA)
  • Learning Disabilities Association (LDA)

The Winston School Board of Trustees is the chief governing body of the school.  The Board holds regularly scheduled meetings each school year.  The trustees are current and former parents of Winston students as well as professionals from the community.

As per the NAIS Principles of Good Practice, The Winston School Board of Trustees is the guardian of the school’s mission. It is the Board’s responsibility to ensure that the mission is relevant and vital to the community it serves and to monitor the success of the school. In addition, the Board recognizes that its primary work and focuses are long-range and strategic. The Board composition reflects the strategic expertise, revenues and perspectives (past, present, future) needed to achieve the mission and strategic objectives of the school. The Board accepts accountability for both the financial stability and the financial future of the institution.
