The Winston School of Short Hills offers competitive salaries, benefits, and professional development opportunities. Winston is an equal-opportunity employer.
The Winston School of Short Hills in Short Hills, New Jersey, is seeking a dynamic, creative, and motivated Middle School (Grades 6-8) Reading and Language Arts long-term substitute teacher for a start as soon as possible. This position may become a permanent one.
The Winston School of Short Hills is a coed, 1st-8th-grade, independent school serving children with language-based learning differences. Our students have the potential to meet with academic success but have been largely unsuccessful due to such challenges as dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, low processing speed, central auditory processing disorder, and poor organizational and executive functioning skills. Our reading programs are Orton-Gillingham-based, and we believe in a multi-modality approach to teaching in every discipline and grade level. Most of our students move on to mainstream public, independent, boarding, and parochial schools. Winston is fully accredited through the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools and the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the NAIS.
The qualified candidate will:
Have Middle School (Grades 6-8) experience.
Demonstrate a passion for reading and writing.
Have experience with the Orton-Gillingham methodology.
Be comfortable teaching groups of various sizes.
Differentiate instruction within a small group.
Be student-centered and compassionate.
Be a flexible team player.
Have special education experience.
The ideal Winston teacher has a passion for teaching, their chosen subject area(s), and working with children who struggle to learn. They are patient, observant, compassionate, and team players willing to work with their peers to determine and to provide the best educational and instructional experience for each student. They are eager to improve their craft through ongoing professional development and are willing to bring new ideas and programs to Winston. Winston teachers often share their expertise, hobbies, and outside interests with students through the Winston Center for Learning, our after-school program.
Salary will range between $50,000 and $75,000 based on years of teaching experience.
