The Winston School launched the ABIDE (Acceptance, Belonging, Inclusivity, Diversity and Equity) this fall. The program promotes a culture that embraces diversity and acceptance in all aspects of our society.
During the fall semester lessons focused on acceptance and tolerance, promoting inclusiveness and open-minded thinking, and spreading kindness. The program extended across all three divisions: Primary, Lower and Middle Schools. Mr. David Stevens, along with division heads: Jill Schuster, Abby Debevoise and Daniele Kass, delivered the program across grade levels in a developmentally appropriate sequence.
Foundational skills and conceptual understanding of concepts begin in the Primary and Lower Schools, where students participated in varied lessons and activities that teach students to live, learn and work together in a vibrant and diverse world. In the Middle School, pillars of character education and citizenship which comprise our Winston “Roots” were accompanied by a more comprehensive analysis of inclusion, acceptance and an appreciation for varied perspectives of a diverse population. Collectively, these principles are embedded throughout the academic curriculum and complimentary activities. Winston is proud of its ongoing commitment to supporting a culture that reflects, embraces and celebrates the uniqueness of every individual.
